CYCLONE PREPAREDNESS PROGRAMME(CPP)

Cyclone Preparedness Programme has a total of 146 fulltime personnel and 42675 trained male and female volunteers in 32 upazillas under 11 coastal districts. After the cyclone Ailla the programme expanded to 5 new Ailla affected upizalas and recruitedtotal 6540 volunteers. Now the present total volunteers are 49215 and covered 13

coastal districts.

The trained volunteers of CPP disseminate the cyclone warning signal all most door to door using megaphone, hand siren and public address system in the coastal community. The volunteers keep on announcing the special weather bulletins on patterns of the approaching cyclone. When the situation turns serious, the GOB passes order for evacuation; the volunteers implement the order and advice and help people in taking shelter in cyclone shelter or other available safe places. The CPP play a vital role in the dissemination of cyclone warnings, evacuation, rescue, first aid and emergency relief works through its volunteers in the coastal districts.

The cyclone preparedness programme operates an extensive network of radio communications facilities, in the coastal areas, linked to its HQs office at Dhaka. The purpose of this network is exclusively for the disaster management tasks. The net work consists of a combination of 35 HF and 130 VHF radio stations, which covers most of the high risk cyclone areas.

To strengthening of CPP activities under the funding of CDMP 43400 ( forty three thousand four hundred) volunteers were trained on search & rescue and 3 Field Demonstrations to public awareness activities in 2009-2010 financial year and funding of Save the Children USA 3600 ( three thousand six hundred) volunteers were trained on disaster management, First aid, search & rescue and 15 Field Demonstrations to public awareness activities in this financial year. In this financial year 1700( one thousand seven hundred) Unit committee, 998 ( nine hundred ninety eight) Union Committee and 318 ( three hundred eighteen) Upazila committee meeting held which leads to the CPP officers, staff and volunteers to be alert and active as per contingency plan. During the time of depression the volunteers of CPP was alert in every time.
